4×4 Hire and Self Drive Safaris
Self drive safaris are becoming more popular around southern Africa but this new trend of travel is well and truly established in Namibia. The country is unique in it environment and what is has to offer in terms of nature. It has so much to offer visitors and locals that live there. If you think about the different attractions you should come up with; the fish river canyon, the orange river, the desert landscapes, Etosha national park, Caprivi in the north with all the wildlife, the cultures in the north west, the desert elephants and a population of under 2million making it very spacious.
So what is it that allows for such a friendly self drive safari environment? There are many countries in Africa that so rural and wild that travelling without local experience will end up in disaster. Travelling on your own without knowing the environment, cultures or the country can lead to more negative memories than positive! The fact is that many tourists prefer to have some sort of flexibility when on holiday and is something that comes naturally. This is something that tourist look and is more commonly doable on other continents but not always in Africa. Namibia is very similar to South Africa in that it has a very good road info structure, although many roads in Namibia are gravel they are well kept allow for easy access to different parts of the country. Namibia has also got small towns that have supplies, friendly people that are looking to help out and lots of information that will help you finds the right information. It is also not as wild as many other neighbouring countries. The national parks, such as Etosha National Park, are very easy to access and do not require a 4×4. This makes your wildlife experience a lot more relaxed.
This has open the country up to many tourists opting to hire a 4×4 vehicle in namibia, which you can hire fully equipped so you have a mobile home where ever you go. This is really convenient and with all the camping sites and accommodation facilities makes for a great way to have the flexibility without having all the drama that turn amazing adventures into holidays that become no fun. You can also visit car hire Namibia for more options on vehicles for hire.
Top Safari Destinations I have visited!
I have travelled small parts of Southern Africa and still have a long list of places to visit and explore. Most of my Safaris have been self drive Safaris in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. These are my experiences and recommendations:
South Africa
In order have a real safari experience you need to travel to the northern parts of the country. Living in Cape Town I prefer to go to the Kalahari also called Kgalagadi. The park is well known for its predators. Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs and Hyenas are some of the more common predators you will see. The red dunes are also something special. A couple of year’s back I could go up without making any bookings, knowing that camps would be free. This was great as some of the best trips are those that you do spontaneously. In the past 2 years the Kgalagadi has become very popular and bookings for the park need to be made in advance. You can book your trips through Kalahari National Parks or if you prefer a bit more luxury you can visit !Xaus Lodge which also provides accommodation in the Kgalagadi. If you are looking for Luxury Lodges in other parts of South Africa then you should visit Luxury Lodges South Africa. Read more…
